Biography
Born in 2002, London-Irish tenor Hugo Brady completed his bachelor’s degree in June 2025 at the Royal College of Music in London, where he currently studies for a master degree under the tutelage of Russell Smythe as an ABRSM scholar. He is a Rising Star of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, a Samling Artist, a former Associate Artist of the Mozartists and a former Oxford Song Young Artist.The 2026/27 season begins with his house and role debut at the Opéra-Comique as Gomatz in Mozart’s Zaide, conducted by Raphaël Pichon. Further debuts will take him to the Tiroler Festspiele Erl for the Austrian premiere of Accabadora as well as to the Grange Festival and the Holland Festival. On the concert stage, Hugo will perform Britten’s Serenade for tenor and horn with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo under the baton of Lawrence Foster, and Bach’s Matthäus-Passion with the Gürzenich-Orchester Köln, conducted by Rubén Dubrovsky. With the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment he will sing Handel’s Messiah in Tallinn and Saffron Walden as well as Bach cantatas at Kings Place in London throughout the season. Next to this, he will perform works by Buxtehude and Bach with La Nuova Musica, and English Baroque repertoire with Arcangelo, both at Wigmore Hall, and will appear in recital at the Philharmonie Luxembourg with Graham Johnson.
Last season saw his return to Festival d’Aix-en-Provence for the world premiere of Francesco Filidei’s opera Accabadora in the role of Andria Bastíu, for which he received outstanding reviews. On the concert stage he gave debuts with Philharmonie Zuid and the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra in Handel’s Messiah, and with the Residentie Orkest in Bach’s Matthäus-Passion, all under Peter Dijkstra. He also performed Weber’s Jubelmesse with the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra under Dima Slobodeniouk, returned to Cadogan Hall with The Mozartists in a programme of operatic works by Mozart, Haydn and J.C. Bach, and appeared with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment at King’s Place in Bach’s cantata Wo soll ich fliehen hin. Recitals at Oxford International Song Festival, Wigmore Hall, and Zeist Lied Festival rounded off his season.
Whilst completing his bachelor‘s degree, Hugo joined the Mozartists in a Jommelli programme at Wigmore Hall and made his role debut with the ensemble as Belfiore in La finta giardiniera at Cadogan Hall. The same season, he appeared at the Oxford International Song Festival alongside Sarah Connolly and pianist Graham Johnson and gave recitals at the Brunswick Vocal Arts with pianist Simon Lepper and at the LIFE Victoria festival in Barcelona with pianist Mark Rogers. In 2025, he made his debut at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence as The Novice in the new production of The Story of Billy Budd, directed by Ted Huffman, and his participation in the Festival’s Académie. This was followed by the Verbier Festival’s Atelier Lyrique, where he sang Triquet in a concert version of Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, conducted by Stanislav Kochanovsky.
During his time at the RCM, Hugo also had the pleasure of performing with Nevill Holt Opera and the Manchester Camerata, as well as with the LSSO at the Aldeburgh Festival and at Barbican Hall. He has taken part in masterclasses with Sir Thomas Allen, Bernarda Fink, Roderick Williams and Veronique Gens, among others.
Hugo began singing at age eight with the Royal Opera House’s Youth Opera Company, performing in operatic favorites such as La bohème and Carmen. Before joining the RCM, he trained at the Centre for Young Musicians, where he won first prizes in both the New Talent British International Youth Music Competition and the Louis Watt Memorial Competition.
He is also the recipient of the 2022 Junior Kathleen Ferrier Award and the Prix de l’Académie de la ville de Ciboure at the Festival Ravel in Saint-Jean-de-Luz.
