Biography
Mezzo-soprano Rachel Frenkel is a regular guest of international opera and concert stages, especially as an interpreter of Mozart and Rossini. She has performed her signature-role of Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro at the Bayerische Staatsoper Munich, conducted by Ivor Bolton, with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, conducted by Gustavo Dudamel, the Edinburgh International Festival and Mostly Mozart Festival New York with the Budapest Festival Orchestra and Iván Fischer, at the Wiener Staatsoper and at the Lyric Opera of Chicago.

Most recently, she appeared as Komponist/Ariadne auf Naxos at La Scala in Milan, Olga/Eugene Onegin and Isabella/Italiana in Algeri at Israeli Opera, as Idamante/Idomeneo with the Balthasar Neumann Ensembles and Thomas Hengelbrock at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden and performed Beethoven‘s Missa Solemnis with Concerto Köln and Kent Nagano.

Engagements in 2022-23 include her house debut at the Opera national de Paris as Cherubino, Bernstein’s Symphony no 1 with the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig and Omer Meir Wellber, Berlioz Les nuits d´été with the Jerusalem Symphony and works by Robert Schumann with Choeur Accentus in Paris and Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie.

A former ensemble member of Staatsoper Wien, she has appeared there as Komponist in Ariadne auf Naxos, Angelina in La Cenerentola, Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Fenena in Nabucco, Stephano in Romeo et Juliette, Wellgunde in Das Rheingold and Götterdämmerung, Siébel in Faust, Ascanio in Les Troyens, Ruggiero in Alcina, conducted by Marc Minkowski, Idamante in Idomeneo, in the lead role of Lea in the world premiere of Johannes Maria Staud’s opera Die Weiden, conducted by Ingo Metzmacher and, most recently, as Hermia in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, in a new production by Irina Brook, conducted by Simone Young.
