BiographyDutch mezzo-soprano Rosanne van Sandwijk studied at the Rotterdam Conservatory with Roberta Alexander and graduated “Cum Laude”. Awards include the “Grachtenfestivalprijs” 2014 and the Oratorio Prize, the Staetshuys Fonds Prize and the Prize of the Dutch National Opera at the 2010 International Vocal Competition s’Hertogenbosch. She is coaching with Margreet Honig and Anne Sofie von Otter.
Recent highlights include Mozart’s Mass in c-minor with the Nederlands Radio Filharmonisch Orkest and Karina Canellakis, 2nd Lady/Die Zauberflöte at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence and De Nationale Opera Amsterdam, Cherubino/Le nozze di Figaro at the Angers Nantes Opera, Berio’s Folk Songs with Het Gelders Orkest, her debut with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Bach’s Magnificat under the baton of Iván Fischer, Mendelssohn’s Lobgesang with the Philharmonie Zuidnederland, Beethoven’s Symphony no 9 with Het Gelders Orkest under Claus Peter Flor, Berlioz’ Les nuits d’été with Sinfonia Rotterdam, Haydn’s Arianna a Naxos with the Israel Camerata Jerusalem and solo concerts with Concerto Köln in Israel, Italy, the Netherlands and Germany.
In the season 22/23, Rosanne van Sandwijk makes her house debut at Bergen Opera as 2.Dame in Simon McBurney’s production of Die Zauberflöte and appears in concerts around the Netherlands.
With the Orchestra of the 18th Century, she has performed several Mozart productions, Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Annio in La Clemenza di Tito, Dorabella in Cosi fan tutte, Cherubino and the Mass in C.
A former ensemble member at Theater Kiel, her roles for this house included Hänsel in Hänsel und Gretel, Venus in Orpheus in der Unterwelt, Frau Reich in Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor, Flora in La Traviata, Suzuki in Madama Butterfly, Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro and Olga in Eugene Onegin.
At De Nationale Opera Amsterdam, she has appeared in Gluck’s Iphigénie en Tauride, under the baton of Marc Minkowski, and as Flowermaiden and 2nd Esquire in Parsifal, conducted by Marc Albrecht and 2nd Nymph in a new production of Rusalka, conducted by Jakub Hrůša.
Ms van Sandwijk’s concert repertoire ranges from Bach’s Passions and cantatas to the main oratorios by Mendelssohn, Mozart, Haydn, Saint-Saëns, Beethoven and Duruflé, which she has performed with ensembles like the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, Concerto d’ Amsterdam, Orchestre national d’Île de France, Camerata Salzburg, Les Musiciens du Louvre and the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. Conductors she has worked with include Paul McCreesh, Anthony Hermus, Jan Willem de Vriend, Louis Langrée, Markus Stenz and the late Sir Colin Davis.
A gifted recitalist, she is a frequent guest at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, with pianists including Malcolm Martineau, Julius Drake and Kristian Bezuidenhout. She performed at the Mannahan and Chipping Campden Festivals with Julius Drake and, more recently, at the Risør Festival in Norway. As a former Lauréat of the Académie Européenne de Musique in Aix-en-Provence she has also appeared in Paris, Dijon, Lille, Aix-en-Provence.
