Biography
Actor Sébastien Dutrieux performed classical theatre repertoire such as Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure, Pushkin’s Mozart and Salieri, Crommelynck’s Les Amants Puérils, Maeterlinck’s Aglavaine et Sélysette, Feydeau’s On Purge Bébé and modern repertoire such as Caryl Churchill’s A Number, Fausto Paravidino’s Nature Morte dans un Fossé, David Hare’s The Vertical Hour, David Lewis’ The Monkey’s Uncle, and Henry Bauchau’s Antigone.He has worked in different theatres in Belgium among others The National Theater, The Rideau de Bruxelles, The Center for Fine Arts and Flagey.
Other appearances include Le Moine Noir by Chekhov, staged by Denis Marleau. The production was presented in Montréal, Ottawa, Québec, and numerous cities in France and Belgium.
In the classical music field, Sébastien Dutrieux was the narrator in many projects including: Le carnaval des animaux by Saint-Saëns and Le neveu de Rameau by Diderot at La Monnaie-Brussels, Le Roi David and Jeanne d’Arc au bûcher by Honegger at the Vredenburg Concert Hall in Utrecht, Lettres à Chopin at Bozar-Brussels, Poulenc’s L’histoire de Babar, Wilfried Hiller’s Tranquilla Trampeltreu, Dvorak’s Le nouveau monde as well as Stravinsky’s L’oiseau de feu with the Orchestre symphonique de Mulhouse.
At the Opéra National de Lorraine in Nancy, he interpreted Peer Gynt by Grieg, L’oiseau de feu by Stravinsky, Roméo et Juliette by Prokofiev, L’histoire de Babar by Poulenc, The young person’s guide to the orchestra by Britten and Le rossignol by Theo Loevendie.
He played L’oiseau de feu by Stravinsky at the Opéra National de Montpellier, Peter Pan by Olivier Pénard at the Auditorium de Lyon, the Pacha Sélim in L´Enlèvement au sérail by Mozart at La Philharmonie de Paris, and Peer Gynt by Grieg with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Liège.
Other engagements include the role of La souris in L’écume des jours/Der Schaum der Tage by Edison Denisov in a most acclaimed production of Jossi Wieler and Sergio Morabito (Oper Stuttgart), Frère Dominique in Honegger´s Jeanne d´Arc au bûcher staged by Àlex Ollé and La Fura dels Baus (Oper Frankfurt), and The Double in Wagner’s Parsifal staged by Dmitri Tcherniakov (Staatsoper Berlin).
With director David Hermann, he played Frère Dominique in Honegger’s Jeanne d’Arc au bûcher at Theater Basel, the Prologue in Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta at the Opéra national de Lorraine and Opéra-Théâtre de Metz, and Le Thérapeute in Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor by Otto Nicolai at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège.
Sébastien Dutrieux also interpreted the role of Don Juan in Béatrice et Bénédict by Berlioz, staged by Richard Brunel, at La Monnaie-Brussels and at the Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse, Prélude at the Opéra national du Rhin, Mouton by Sophie Kassies at the Opéra national du Rhin and Opéra-Théâtre de Metz, Le silence des ombres by Benjamin Attahir at La Monnaie-Brussels, L´histoire du soldat by Stravinsky at the Opéra de Lyon, Opéra de Lausanne, Opéra de Montpellier and at Festival Castell de Peralada in a staging by Àlex Ollé and La Fura dels Baus as well as Jeanne d`Arc au bûcher staged by Romeo Castellucci at La Monnaie-Brussels.
He plays alongside Dietrich Henschel in Wunderhorn, and Harawi – chant d´amour et de mort, two movies by Clara Pons that have been presented at La Monnaie-Brussels, De Doelen-Rotterdam, the London Barbican, the Stavanger Concert Hall, the Tonhalle Düsseldorf, De Singel-Antwerp and the Victoria Hall in Geneva.
He has had the opportunity to collaborate with conductors such as: Daniel Barenboim, Sylvain Cambreling, Marc Soustrot, Michael Schønwandt, Jérémie Rhorer, Kazushi Ono, Juanjo Mena, François-Xavier Roth, James Gaffigan, Cornelius Meister, Lucie Leguay, Christian Arming and Ariane Matiakh.
Most recent and upcoming engagements include: Rédemption by César Franck at TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht, Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss at the Philharmonie de Paris, Béatrice et Bénédict by Berlioz at Oper Köln, Jeanne d´Arc au bûcher by Honegger at Teatro Real-Madrid alongside Marion Cotillard, Prokofiev´s Ivan le Terrible at the Philharmonie de Paris and on tour with the Orchestre national d´Île-de-France, and Iphigénie en Tauride by Gluck at the Opéra national de Lorraine.
